Admin "Oops"

  • I was adjusting my user groups for my admin acct on my forum and removed "Administrators" as the primary user group and made it a secondary group.

    Now I cannot log in to AdminCP.

    Is there a generic admin account or a way to unlock this? I am the administrator and have physical access to the server, etc.

  • Making him a 'Super Admin', does not put him in the Admin group. See post #2.

    Just for giggles, is there a 'backdoor' method for doing what the tools.php does?

    Granted, I highly doubt we'll ever run into this particular error again (*it WAS me not paying attention...*), I'm interested in how I might be able to fix it should I not have access to the provided tools.

    Again, thanks for the input. I was having a ridiculous time trying to figure out how to put that userid back in the admin group.


  • To follow up, although the issue still persists:



    Created a new account
    using the new account userid, I made that account "Super Admin" in config.php
    restarted apache
    cleared browser cache
    attempted to log in to AdminCP using the new "Super Admin" account

    I log in, it says "Thank you for logging in" and then redirects me to the log in screen that I just completed.

  • To restore your Admin status, download the vB zip file for your version, then extract the 'tools.php' script from the 'do_not_upload' folder. Then upload this file to your Admin CP directory and run it from your browser. Use the appropriate option to promote your user to Admin using this option:

    [Reset Admin Access]

    Then immediately remove this script.


  • No backdoors. The only other option would be to manually edit that user in the database and change the usergroupid to '6'.
